Eloise's Bat Mitzvah

My Bat Mitzvah Projects!

In Hebrew, Tikkun Olam means "Repairing the World". Within the Jewish faith, we are encouraged to perform Tikkun Olam in an effort to make the world a better place. Tikkun Olam might mean helping a neighbor, volunteering, or simply smiling at someone who looks sad.

For my projects, I chose to be a teacher's helper at Hebrew School and to raise funds for the Emmanuel Dining Room, a place where anyone can go to enjoy a meal, no questions asked.

My Projects

Emmanuel Dining Room

Hebrew School Ozrim

"Ozrim" is translated as "G-d's helpers." I chose to be an Ozeret at CBS because I like little kids, and also because I might want to become a teacher someday. As an Ozeret, I help gather supplies for the classroom, take attendance, pass out snacks, clean up spills, keep the kids entertained, and try to get them to focus on the teacher. I have helped at Hebrew school every Tuesday evening and Sunday morning for almost a year. I have also enjoyed hanging out with the other Ozrim.

For my second project, I chose to participate in fundraising and a food drive for the Emmanuel Dining Room - where every day of the year, an average of 550 nutritious meals are served to Wilmington Delaware’s hungry, in restaurant fashion, at no cost. The Dining room has the support of nearly 100 synagogues, churches, businesses, and civic groups! I am blessed with a nice warm home and plenty to eat, and I want to help feed my community because no one should go hungry.
